Over a century ago, Jennie Butchart began nurturing a garden in an emptied limestone quarry. Since then, the Butchart Gardens has grown from its humble beginnings into acres of world-renowned floral show gardens and a National Historic Site of Canada. The Gardens feature seasonal floral displays in a variety of Canadian and international styles making it a popular attraction with locals and tourists throughout the year.

Self-guided tours take visitors through over 55 acres of unique gardens starting at the heart of Butchart Gardens, the former quarry now known as the Sunken Garden. From this centre-piece, explore Jennie Butchart’s other floral masterpiece with a stop at the fragrant rose garden, where you will be greeted with a myriad of colours as the flowers bloom for the summer. The Japanese Garden provides a peaceful change of pace, with its streams and ponds hidden amongst the serene maple and beech trees. Visitors can also tour the expansive Italian and Mediterranean gardens surrounding the former Butchart residence for a glimpse of magnificent statues, the splendid Star Pond and plants from around the world.
