The 16th World Conference on Cooperative Education & Work Integrated Learning: An International Dialogue in Vancouver brought together nearly 400 delegates from 23 countries together for a week of exchanging ideas; reacquainting with colleagues; and forming new partnerships, collaborations, and relationships.
Occurring June 23-26, 2009, many international delegates arrived at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre early in the week to attend a WACE, ACE, or CAFCE Board Meeting; rehearse their presentations; or just to do a little sight-seeing in one of Canada’s most beautiful and friendly cities.
Although the unpredictable June weather threatened rain all week, it held off at exactly the right times for delegates to enjoy the opening reception in the Sheraton’s outdoor courtyard, and the Gala Dinner hosted by Simon Fraser University and held on their beautiful Burnaby Mountain campus.
What some of the delegates are saying:
“The WACE Vancouver Conference in June was one of the best conferences I’ve ever attended – efficiently run, good vibes, ample opportunity for delegates to mingle and exchange ideas. All in all – a fantastic time.”
“The program was excellent, the organization superb and the location was amazing. Vancouver was an inspired choice. The Canadians were so friendly. I got a lot out of the conference and got some great follow-ups.”
“I would just like to indicate how grateful I was to attend the conference. It was an amazing opportunity to build connections and add more value to my co-op experiences. It was extremely encouraging to see an international group of delegates who were so dedicated to our (students) academic and employment success. Overall it was one of the best conferences I’ve ever attended. Thanks again for such an amazing opportunity and experience.” -a co-op student

NCCE & WACE Merger Update
As you may already know, WACE's Board and the National Commission for Cooperative Education (NCCE) Board have agreed to merge the two organizations to create a "new entity," effective July 1, 2010.
We are very excited about the opportunity to create a broader, stronger, and more efficient organization, essentially utilizing the "Best of Both" organizations.
As part of our planning process, we launched a world-wide naming contest on September 21st to accurately identify our new organization, based on the above parameters. We have already received over 70 suggestions, and we urge you to submit your idea(s) to us as well!
The two Boards will ultimately decide which name will be used; however, we are leaving it up to our members to concoct the choices!
If your suggestion is chosen, you will receive one complimentary registration to our next World Conference, which will be held in conjunction with Drexel University in Philadelphia, U.S. from June 14-17, 2011. (This prize is valued at approximately $600USD.) You will also be recognized and honored at this event. |
