GNOMES: THE WACE PLANNING INSTITUTE MODEL

The Insititute introduces a simple, yet powerful planning model — GNOMES — as a guide for teams to use with facilitators as they design their own plans for advancing their institution’s experiential education programs and portfolio.

The GNOME will give participants a framework to facilitate smooth implementation of their plan when they return to campus.

On the first day of the Institute, teams present their current campus programs, as well as their goals for the week. Throughout the week, team conversations about planning will be facilitated by Institute Faculty Members. On the fifth day of the Institute, teams present their future plans, followed by discussion and feedback from all Institute participants and faculty.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE - PLANNING EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION FOR YOUR CAMPUS

Adding a wide-spectrum integrated experiential program to an academic curriculum is a strong way for your institution to address issues of student success both during and after college. This Planning Institute will do that through a unique combination of expert faculty lectures, facilitated plan development and sustained interaction with faculty and other Institute participants. Participants leave with a draft plan that features stronger interaction with the outside world, deeper reflection by students on their career trajectory and opportunities to respond to modern higher education concerns on your campus.

DEVELOP YOUR EDUCATIONAL PLANS

The Institute is designed for teams to develop an educational plan that strengthens and/or expands the institution’s experiential education portfolio. On the first day of the Institute, teams present their current campus programs, as well as their goals for the week. Team conversations will be facilitated by Institute Faculty Members. On the fifth day of the Institute, teams will present their future plans, followed by discussion and feedback from all Institute participants and faculty.
