V. B. Visions For the Future

One of the questions included in our survey was ''What service to you think WACE Inc. could provide to facilitate the development of international co-op programs?'' Most of the responses included suggestions. They are summarized below in four areas:

  • maintain a list of WACE members active in international co-op and seeking partners
  • identify resource persons by country, local 'champions' of international co-op
  • create a student ''help'' line on the Internet that links them with other students or local student organizations
  • organize a conference with an international co-op/networking theme

  • maintain a list of employers seeking international co-op students
  • post current visa and immigration regulations, updated as they change
  • maintain a directory of graduates from international co-op placements for access by new students seeking mentors and advice
  • produce an annual report of international co-op activities, identifying active WACE members
  • maintain an accommodation exchange for students seeking housing or billeting

  • cultivate an increased acceptance of international co-op at a corporate level
  • support the recognition of international co-op activities by institutions
  • advocate the development of a global work permit or trainee visa recognized by all countries
  • initiate new projects related to the basics of international co-op; provide kickstart funding for new initiatives

  • provide a fee-for-service system like IAESTE; perhaps forge a link to other association such as CIEE
  • offer student insurance to cover their period of work and travel
