IV. A. Finding Exchange Partners

Respondents indicated that finding a committed, reliable and discipline-related exchange partner is difficult and extremely important. Many, including the authors of this document, reported finding their exchange partners through attending the World Conferences on Co-operative Education, held biennially since 1979 by WACE Inc. These truly international conferences have been held in the following cities: London, England (1979), Boston, US (1981), Melbourne, Australia (1983), Edinburgh, Scotland (1985), Amsterdam, the Netherlands (1987), Hamilton, Canada (1989), Hong Kong (1991), Dublin, Ireland (1993), Kingston, Jamaica (1995), and in Cape Town, South Africa (1997).

The World Association for Co-operative Education, Inc. (WACE), was founded in 1983 to foster co-operative education and other similar work-integrated education programs worldwide. At present it has 440 members, both individual and organizational, representing 26 countries. In July 1995 WACE established a permanent secretariat in Boston.
