International co-op programs can be divided into two main categories: exchange and one-way. In an exchange, programs from different countries collaborate in placing each others' students. Both host programs take responsibility for identifying suitable jobs for the incoming foreign students. One-way programs can be quite varied in operation and facilitation, but in all cases the student placements abroad are not reciprocated by incoming foreign students. Approximately three-quarters of survey responses were from programs that used an exchange model.
